My plot line is different than Rhonda's, but as soon as I read the subtitle, "A Mother's Journey to Courage, Acceptance, and Wisdom," I absolutely knew this book was for me. What rung most true when I read it and what still does now is the certainty that no matter what happens to us--no matter what tragedy we face--we absolutely have a choice in how we will respond, what we will make for ourselves of the situation. And ultimately, what we carry forward into the world. Anger, rage, resentment. Or compassion, humility and light. Life doesn't get much more tragic for a wife and mother than losing first a husband to cancer and then nine months later a child. Rhonda shares her courage in such a compelling and graceful way. She doesn't tell us what to do. She shows us with her beautiful language how she got up every day, did what needed to be done, and along the way honored both her husband and her daughter. Of course I love them both but truly I have always loved stories about women, never reading stories about men till very recently. For me, traversing life without stories would be unimaginable, I have always read women stories with a passion bordering on neurotic. Surviving the madness of having two treasured family members being sick at the same time is a challenge right at the top of the chart of life's miseries.This book is written with a heart breaking honesty and a simply style that can help others along the same path of Rhonda and Sherry. With all the frightening sadness, i still felt it was about re-integration of all things - even through out the tragedies.There is a feminine strength/receptiveness to her relationships that are over, then rebuilt - and others, eradicated by illness with renewed love. - in another.
