A great cup of Zen coffee!!By Matias FluryThis is a delightfully enlightening, profoundly silly book, which I found highly entertaining and intriguing from the first page. Paramananda Ishaya’s play with words is a highly valuable attempt to describe the indescribable, and he fully admits on each page the fallacy of trying to do so, all the while pointing us towards that unknowable and yet obvious Unity which we already are, which simply can’t be touched by descriptions. Since that Oneness is what we truly are, and yet is ungraspable by the mind (since it exists prior to the mind), words and concepts can at best give hints, instantly dissolving pointers, you could say, towards our true nature, which is inherently untouched by words and concepts. Ishaya revels in making us laugh again and again at the absurdity of trying to use language to convey silence, that laughter surely succeeding better than words ever could to give us a precious glimpse of what we truly are. There’s no doubt that his comically cosmic Zen-jugglery is a precious offering which may enable us to directly perceive that, as he puts it, “literally, suffering has never happened.” And what prevents us from seeing the omnipresent Unity that is the one reality of each and every one of us As he puts it, “As long as there appears to be a ‘you’ that is a separate individual, Unity is not seen.” Hence the book’s title, egging us on to look in the mirror and see not an individual, but only pure Being untouched by a ‘me’, and directly perceive the substratum of Oneness in which all manifestation appears and disappears.What is evident from the first page to the last is that the author is speaking not from any kind of book learning, Zen forbid, but directly from that space of ‘me’-less freedom which his words point to. The joy bubbling through each of his paragraphs is clearly Divine Essence percolating freely through language, without the filter of a human ego.Ah ho! Wonderful! “Without You There” makes for a great cup of Zen coffee.
