If you are patient enough to get past this (and it's really not a terribly long passage), you will be rewarded with excellent advice for cutting back on your grocery bill. An added benefit to the techniques described is that it is not heavily dependent on coupon-clipping and extreme methods for "getting a grocery cart of food for $1.99" (emphasis added, not a direct quote). While I'm not sure that feeding a family on $40 a week is going to work for every reader, there is plenty of advice on how to stretch your food dollars without starving. Recipes using basic, inexpensive staples are provided, but be forewarned that they rely a lot on foods high in carbs. The author explains why this is so, and points out quite rightly that this is not a book about dieting, but about feeding your family on a very, very small budget. The information and advice given is very practical, useful and applicable to reducing your grocery bill. Well worth the minimal price of the ebook.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Much Better than Other Frugal EBooks Out ThereBy ShmonkeyThings I Liked:1) While the author is a blogger she does not constantly mention, link, or shill her blog.2) Unlike a lot of free/cheap ebooks about frugal living/housekeeping this book is written with a personality. It is not just a random compilation of tips you can easily find online. The author puts her personality into the book. It's almost like a a good friend sharing her story and giving you suggestions. She motivates. That being said, she does not hide the fact that her faith plays a big part in her life. While she does quote a few Bible verses here and there she, by no means, tries to convert you or convince you that Jesus is the only way to a lower grocery bill.3) While Ms. Eddy recognizes that frugal eating does not always equal healthy eating she at least tries. And, I appreciate the fact that she acknowledges that sometimes, in the name of survival, compromises have to be made. So many other frugal writers either doesn't know anything about healthy diet or they choose to ignore it. Ms. Eddy, on the either hand, admits that sometimes, situations aren't ideal but you do the best with what you can. She even tackles weight loss and dietary restriction on a budget.4) Her recipes actually seem appealing and does not rely on condensed soup and hot dogs. I also like that she includes some personal story and tips with the recipes. My only complaint is that the formatting can be a bit better. Sometimes segments run into each other with just a bold increased font to signal a change. This is especially annoying in the recipe section.See all 63 customer reviews...
